Origin Story

Craig Bailey, the visionary behind FoamAroma, is a rare blend of engineer, coffee connoisseur, and supertaster. His journey began in 2007 when he noticed a stark difference between the sensory experience of coffee in the shop and on the go. Craig's heightened sensory perception allowed him to pinpoint the shortcomings of traditional to-go lids, which eliminated aroma and compromised flavor and mouthfeel.

Driven by his passion for quality coffee and his engineering mind, Craig embarked on a mission to revolutionize the to-go coffee experience. He went into R&D mode, meticulously crafting prototypes in his kitchen-turned-laboratory. His goal was to create a lid that would preserve the nuances of aroma and flavor, enhancing rather than hindering the coffee-drinking experience.

Craig's dedication to perfecting every detail, from the drinking surface's angle to the openings' size and shape, resulted in FoamAroma. This lid brings the richness of in-shop coffee to on-the-go consumers. His innovation bridges the gap between convenience and quality, allowing coffee enthusiasts to appreciate their coffee wherever they may be.

The science behind the lid

FoamAroma's lid design revolutionizes the to-go coffee experience by capturing the enjoyment of drinking from an open mug. Unlike traditional lids focused solely on spill prevention, FoamAroma prioritizes taste and aroma. Its unique features include venting for improved airflow, allowing full mouth coating and flavor perception. Coating the tongue, gums, cheeks, and back of the throat activates all of the taste buds in all regions of the tongue for a full spectrum of flavors (sweet, salty, sour, bitter, umami). The design allows aroma to hit the nose and facilitates the flow of microfoam in espresso-based drinks. The slanted drink hole ensures unobstructed liquid flow at any angle. Made from carefully selected, flexible material, the lid uses less plastic than common alternatives and is reusable. This innovative design enhances the overall sensory experience of drinking coffee on the go.
